2nd CAMLOG Dental Technology Congress with 1,000 Attendees

Implant prosthetics in the digital age were the central theme of the 2nd CAMLOG Dental Technology Congress "Fascination with Implant Prosthetics" on April 9th at the Stuttgart Liederhalle. With about 1,000 attendees, the event was even bigger than the very successful premier of the congress in 2009. First-class presentations showed that smart business decisions are also important today in addition to skill and expertise.

Successful implant prosthetics with the right concepts and partners
Michael Ludwig, Managing Director of CAMLOG Vertriebs GmbH, went into the technical shift and associated changes in his opening speech. "A realignment of dental operations is necessary in ever shorter intervals. The goal of this congress is to give you workable concepts with predictable results for daily work in the laboratory and in the practice."

Optimal emergence profile through customized abutments
The emergence profile in the CAD/CAM age and the correct type of fixation were at the heart of the specialized topics. As a true partner of the dentist, Stefan Picha (Fürth) feels responsible for the development of soft tissue. An optimal emergence profile of the final crowns, for example, is made easier by customized zirconium oxide abutments bondable on CAMLOG® Titanium bases CAD/CAM.

Screwed fixation or cementation?
The literature shows that cement residues increase the risk of peri-implant inflammation. Andreas Kunz (Berlin) hopes that with appropriate implant positioning, the surgeon can make screwed fixations possible even in the upper jaw front. Andreas Nolte (Münster) also prefers to work with screwed fixations. However, if zirconium oxide abutments could fracture because of incisal screw channels, for example, cementation is in order.

Hans-Joachim Lotz presented a spectacular removable restoration with CAMLOG® Vario SR abutments as the substructure. With these prosthetic components, the restoration can be occlusally screw-retained. A perfect fit was achieved in the patient case shown using a passivation plate and CAD matching.

Individual CAD/CAM abutments
According to Friedrich Linder and Sascha Wethlow (both from Wimsheim, Germany), individual CAD/CAM abutments will also be available from CAMLOG in the future. With the new CONELOG® implant system, 40 percent of the implant market that prefer conical implant abutment connections could now also be reached.

Zirconium oxide ceramic: Highly versatile
On the topic of material science, Josef Schweiger (University of Munich) emphasized that the underside of dental pontics ideally consists of smooth polished zir-conium oxide. According to MSc. Dipl.-Ing. Bogna Stawarczyk (University of Zurich), careful polishing without heat build-up is safe. Based on previous studies, zirconium oxide ceramic is very versatile and can be used with success.

Systematic treatment plan
The dental technician is brought into the treatment plan very early in the group practice of Dr. Axel Kirsch and Dr. Karl-Ludwig Ackermann in Filderstadt, Germany. For complex restorations, the mock-up designed according to functional and phonetic standards is prepared on the patient directly. Hans-Joachim Bock (Baden-Baden) also emphasized the importance of a systematic treatment plan. This included a very careful diagnostic and sufficiently long pre-prosthetic phase with hygienic and aesthetically appropriate long-term provisionals.

Conclusion
The 2nd CAMLOG Dental Technology Congress showed that interest in the "Fascination with Implant Prosthetics" is tremendous and that dental technicians have a successful future ahead with the right concepts, partners and a good amount of passion. Moderators Gerhard Neuendorff (Filderstadt) and Siegbert Witkowski (University of Freiburg) also contributed to the success. They took the opportunity to skillfully complement the presentations with targeted questions to the speakers and the resulting contributions to the discussion. We can already look forward to a possible continuation of the event series.
